"Embracing Linguistic Diversity: Celebrating International Mother Language Day"

International Mother Language Day is a global observance held on February 21 every year to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism. It is a tribute to the language movement in Bangladesh on February 21, 1952, where students and activists sacrificed their lives to protect their mother tongue, Bangla. The main objective of this day is to raise awareness about the importance of mother languages and to promote their preservation and protection. It is also a reminder of the importance of multilingualism in a globalized world, as the ability to speak more than one language enables better communication and understanding between people from different cultures. According to the United Nations, half of the world's estimated 7,000 languages are in danger of disappearing, with one language becoming extinct every two weeks.

The United Nations has declared 2022-2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages to raise awareness about the importance of indigenous languages and promote their protection and revitalization. On International Mother Language Day, it is important to recognize the role that language plays in shaping our identities and worldviews, promote cultural diversity, social cohesion, and respect for human rights, and promote education in mother languages. It also serves as a reminder of the power of language to bring people together and bridge cultural divides.

International Mother Language Day is a call to action for governments, institutions, and individuals to recognize and support linguistic diversity, as half of the world's estimated 7,000 languages are in danger of disappearing due to language discrimination, globalization, and the dominance of a few major languages. The United Nations has declared 2022-2032 as the International Decade of Indigenous Languages to raise awareness about the importance of indigenous languages and promote their protection and revitalization. Celebrating our mother languages can promote cultural diversity, social cohesion, and respect for human rights, as well as promote education in mother languages, especially for children. It also serves as a reminder of the power of language to bring people together and bridge cultural divides. International Mother Language Day is a day to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity, promote social justice and human rights, and recognize the importance of language in shaping our identities and worldviews.

It calls for the protection of linguistic rights and the promotion of linguistic equality, as well as ensuring access to education and public services in mother languages, promoting the use of mother languages in the media and business, and supporting the development of language policies that recognize and promote linguistic diversity. It also celebrates the courage and sacrifice of those who have fought to protect their mother languages and preserve their cultural heritage.

International Mother Language Day is a day to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity, promote social justice and human rights, and recognize the importance of language in sustainable development. By promoting the use of mother languages and supporting linguistic diversity, we can create a more inclusive and sustainable world where all voices are heard and respected.
